Weekly Discoveries

Uncategorized Jul 22, 2020

The past week has been…full! That seems to be the best way to describe it. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

What’s keeping me centered?   Meditation. I’m very grateful for my morning habit of meditating for 10 minutes. It’s not much, but having those 10 minutes to clear my mind is invaluable for me and really helps declutter my mind for the day. It’s a lot like emptying the trash—starting fresh.

What am I excited about?   This past week, I released my first solo single “Buena Cosa”. It’s half Spanish, half English, full of reggaeton beats and melodies. I’ve always loved Spanish summer anthems like “Bailando” and “Despacito”—so this is in a similar vein.   This is the first song that I’ve really created from start to finish, in terms of writing the lyrics, helping with production, creating the melodies, commissioning the artwork,...

Friday Weekly Roundup!

I wanted to take a moment to share with everyone what I’m learning, what I’m experimenting with, and some of the highlights of my week. I hope this gives you some value!

What’s Got Me Excited?

There’s always something…the first one would be finally releasing the teaser trailer of a new web series I’m starring in called “Solaris: Evolution”. This is a very fun action-adventure role where solar flares are beginning to engulf the earth and a few humans have suddenly been endowed with strange abilities (superpowers). I play Ethan Mace who has light-based superpowers.

Take a look!

The other thing I’m extremely excited about is a recent song I released. I started working on music at the end of last year—releasing a motivational style rap song called “Rising Son”, but my true passion has always been more melodic...

The 2% Difference

Uncategorized Jul 22, 2020

Each morning, I make a daily habit of listening to something positive and inspirational. In fact, this was one of the yearly goals I set for myself in 2020—to listen to one of these every morning. Whether I’m in the car, on a run, it doesn’t matter.

This morning, I was listening to a fantastic video by Evan Carmichael (if you haven’t, check him out!) and he was talking about the 2% difference.

This concept is super simple. It simply means that as soon as you have a good idea—don’t start planning or strategizing or figuring out how to make it work…simply take action on it right then and there.

As Tony Robbins would say “Never leave the scene of a major decision without taking action.”

This is crucial! If you try to figure out how you will fully achieve this goal, your mind will slowly talk you out of it. When we have inspired decisions, this usually occurs in a moment of boldness and clarity. Over...

6 Keys to a Successful Morning Routine

Uncategorized Jul 22, 2020

So many people in the world feel lost, in a rut, or like they’re not living up to their potential. This cascades into so many consequences in other areas of their life.   If there ever was a “secret to success” or a “life hack” that has the power to completely transform your life—this is it.

  1. Wake up early—no snooze!

This one is just a given. I don’t even need to mention the scores of successful, accomplished people who do this. By getting up early, you get to create order in your day and essentially captain the day, rather than waking up behind the clock on everything.   We all have different schedules, but 5 or 6am seems to do the trick for most people.   Also, avoid snoozing. Waking up the second time isn’t going to be any easier and you’re also subconsciously going to feel slightly defeated. So when the alarm goes off—just get going!

  1. Make the bed

Again, this has...

Compound Lifts: The Key to an Amazing Physique

Uncategorized Jul 22, 2020

Hey guys!

Here’s a common question I get. People will ask me, “I’m training hard and I'm leaner than ever—why don't I have a more toned or ripped physique?”

You have to remember, getting lean will simply expose your underlying musculature. High intensity training, bodyweight training, and calisthenics are fantastic for conditioning and getting ripped—but if you haven’t taken the time to build the foundational strength needed for muscle size, you may not be happy with what you see!

The best, most direct way to build this muscle size and density is through the major compound lifts. This means slowly building your strength at the squatbench pressdeadliftdipoverhead presschin up, barbell rowsbarbell curls, and lunges.

Here’s the breakdown:

The Three Key Steps to Rapid Fat Loss

Uncategorized Jul 22, 2020

Let’s be honest, there are infinite ways to rapidly lose fat. Whether it’s fastingcelery juice cleanses, doing huge amounts of cardio, or running a huge calorie deficit—we’ve all gotten really strict for a while and lost weight.

But what happens afterwards? Boom—the weight comes back with a vengeance, appetite is through the roof, and you probably end up even heavier than when you started.

Thus begets the cycle of yo-yo dieting.

How do we break this cycle and actually lose the fat permanently…and quickly?

The answer lies in implementing these three habits on a consistent basis.

Prioritize protein. We want to focus on centring our diet around high protein foods like beef, eggs, salmon, chicken, greek yoghurt, whey protein. This will provide your body with the protein and nutrients it needs to maintain muscle mass while you’re losing fat. Many people lose weight—but it’s not all fat. They can lose a...

Intermittent Fasting vs Eating More Frequently

Uncategorized Jul 22, 2020

If you had asked me this a year or two ago, I would have said intermittent fasting--hands down. I spent around three years practicing fasting on a daily. In the past 4 months, I've been practicing the opposite--doing around 4-5 small meals a day.

2017—Lean, 152 lbs, Carnivore OMAD vs 2020 Lean, 163 lbs, Carnivore 3-5 meals a day.

Before we get into this, let me just say that the answer always depends on your goal. That’s why there’s no one size fits all solution. Also, no health expert or anyone offering advice has the exact same life circumstances, health conditions, training goals, and lifestyle as you. So always take advice with a grain of Redmond’s real salt.

Here are some practical takeaways!

  1. Intermittent fasting is fantastic for getting lean...IF you can stick to eating the right foods during your eating window! Often times, I would be busy and by the time I was ready to eat--I was so hungry that I would load up on bacon, or cheese, or...

Fear is Your Superpower

Uncategorized Jul 20, 2020

Fear is a lot like fire. It can be your friend or your enemy. As the old saying goes “Fire is a good servant, but a bad master.” The same goes for fear. If you can use your fear, it can become one of your greatest assets—almost like a superpower. If you don’t know how to control your fear, it can stop you from ever going after the things you want to do in life.

Will Smith said “Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.”

You can learn to inoculate yourself to fear by exposing yourself to small doses of it daily.

Are you afraid to call someone? Good—that’s your #1 goal for the day. Call them.

Are you afraid to work on a big project so you keep procreating? Good—face that project today and do SOMETHING to move it forward.

Are you afraid to speak up at work? Boom—that’s the goal today. Speak up.

Learn to embrace the butterflies. When you’re about to do something that you fear, embrace the feeling....

The Importance of Having Daily Routines

Uncategorized Jul 20, 2020

Whether you call them habits, rituals, or routines--these are so important! Why? Because they are the foundation upon which the rest of your life is built. A good life is built on a string of successful days. Days are successful when you are able to be productive in the areas that matter most to you--work, health, family, faith, education, etc.

How do we create productive days? The best starting point is to have a morning routine. When you wake up in the morning, don't think. Have a routine that you automatically do--it's not even a question.

The crucial components of this routine for me are: coffee, read/learn, write down goals (yearly or mini-goals), gratitude or meditation, exercise, then shower and breakfast. This usually takes me from 5-7:30am. But by 7:30, I have already accomplished a lot and I feel organized, calm, stable, excited for the day ahead and energized.

Imagine the opposite. You roll of out of bed late. You scramble into the shower. Your room is a mess. You take a...

Cold Showers: The Ultimate Mood Booster?

Uncategorized Jul 20, 2020

I’m always preaching the power of routines and habits to set you up for success. Simply having that organized daily routine will free up your mind to think creatively and to be more fully present with each task because you know that you’ve planned enough time to get everything done!

One of my favourite routines, before I start my work for the day, is taking a cold shower. This is usually after my workout. The cold shower floods my body with “happiness hormones” and increase my alertness and focus. By the time I sit down to work, I’m excited and ready to go.

Healthline states “For people with depression, cold showers can work as a kind of gentle electroshock therapy. The cold water sends many electrical impulses to your brain. They jolt your system to increase alertness, clarity, and energy levels. Endorphins, which are sometimes called happiness hormones, are also released. This effect leads to feelings of well-being and...
